Launch of the 1st MOOC on satellite telecommunications, supported by the Patrick and Lina Drahi Foundation

, ,

Eager to learn more about satellite communications, understand how satellites are designed, or how the associated terrestrial installations? Thanks to the “Introduction to satellite communications” MOOC you will understand the wide-ranging communications system that provides mobile telephones services, television and even internet access. This is the first MOOC on satellite communications, a domain in which France plays a major international role. This MOOC is the first to be created by IMT with the support of the Patrick and Lina Drahi Foundation.

A new, innovative MOOC by Télécom Bretagne, Télécom Paris and ENSEEIHT, with the support of CNES and the National Instruments

This course, which will start on 1st June and will take place over the course of 6 weeks, is designed for those who want to know more about satellite communications.

It combines knowledge input, practical demonstrations, off-line activities and testimonials from professionals in this field (Thales Alenia Space, Airbus, SES, CNES…).

  • Week 1: satellites at our service
  • Week 2:communication between satellites and the earth
  • Week 3: communications chain
  • Week 4: communications techniques
  • Week 5: equipment
  • Week 6: integration of terrestrial services and networks

The teaching team consists of professors and researchers from Télécom Bretagne, Télécom Paris and ENSEEIHT. This MOOC, offered on FUN, does not lead to a qualification but a certificate for those who have followed the course since the beginning. Every week there will be a test to evaluate the knowledge acquired.

The “Drahi Program’s” 1st MOOC

After the announcement last year that Patrick Drahi would be supporting the Télécom schools for the creation of an online course, via the Fondation Mines-Télécom, this is the first MOOC in a series created by the Institute.

For Nicolas Sennequier, head of the Transformation numérique des formations (digital transformation of training) program by IMT, “thanks to the support from the Patrick and Lina Drahi Foundation, the teaching team was able to develop practical work specific to the course. This is an unusual and original educational method for a MOOC that allows learner involvement and goes beyond materials such as videos and written texts”.

Registrations are already open and will remain open up until 13 July.
