The third annual TSE Welcome Day was held on December 2 2010 in Paris. Organized by the Télécom group of the Institut Mines-Télécom's International Coordination department, the event brought together the thirty TSE scholars, representatives from our corporate sponsors (SFR, BNP Paribas, Orange, Alcatel Lucent and Accenture) and representatives from the Institut. The purpose of the day was to bring our scholars and business partners together. For our students, a group of ten different nationalities (Chinese, Brazilian, Indian, Russian and more), the objective was to establish a solid network of professional contacts which will serve them well for their end of year work placement, and ultimately for their future career. For our business partners, this was an opportunity to meet and forge links with some of our most talented students. |
The day was split into three sessions. The opening session was dedicated to presentations and introductions. Our business partners took turns to present their companies to the students, before introductions and first networking contacts were made over an excellent buffet. The second session was set aside for individual interviews: students met one-on-one with our business partners, giving the professionals the chance to evaluate our scholars’ skills and profile. The final session was one of relaxation, with a guided tour of Paris to round off the day. Hoping to make our students as comfortable as possible, the Télécom group of the Institut Mines-Télécom invited two alumni of the TSE 2009 scheme who are now working for one of our business partners. These graduates were on hand to share their experiences of interviews and work placements.
| In the long term, the format of the event is likely to change. But what is certain is that the welcome day has now become a major event in the Télécom group of the Institut Mines-Télécom calendar. “The interviews went well. It provided information about the companies, the profiles they […] expected. Also, the [individual] interviews were quite effective, where the ‘moment of truth’ conversation is really important.” Hasanudin Farid, Telecom Bretagne. “Very warm welcome! Presentations were well organized and interesting. Good communication between the scholarship students and companies.” Thanh Ha Nguyen, Telecom SudParis. |
